Referred to as the largest flea market in the Midwest, the Shipshewana Flea Market attracts visitors from many states. People come to sort through the almost 500 vendor’s booths, hoping to find just the right items for them to take home. With the diversity of products offered all in one location, they are sure to have just what you are looking for.

The Shipshewana Flea Market is located in Northern Indiana right in the heart of Amish country at 345 South Van Buren Street in Shipshewana, Indiana. The market is opened every Tuesday and Wednesday, starting the first week of May and continuing until the last week of October. The doors open at 8:00 am and close at 5:00 pm. Admission into the flea market is free, but there is a small fee required for parking, which is a little higher for RVs or those pulling trailers.

Since this is an area of the country highly populated by the Amish, you will be able to find some of the best handmade goods at the Shipshewana Flea Market. In addition to homemade products, there are antiques, collectibles, army surplus supplies, books, DVDs, vintage clothing, household items, seasonal items, and sporting goods supplies, as well as, a large selection of fresh produce and homemade baked goods. There is just about everything imaginable sold at the flea market.

For obvious reasons, most vendors do not accept checks or credit cards but rather require cash for all purchases. For the convenience of their guest, the Shipshewana Flea Market provides ATM machines. This will allow buyers to only take out as much cash as they need to buy their items. It is hard to say if heading to the market early or late is the best option. The morning allows you to be one of the first to see what’s available but it is also more crowded at that time. If you go later in the day, the crowd will have thinned and the sellers will be more likely to barter with you.

The Amish are also famous for the wonderful homemade cooking and the food found at the Shipshewana Flea Market will not disappoint you. Within the flea market there are four carry-out centers offering a wide variety of food selections such as, biscuit and gravy, taco salad, corndogs, sloppy joes and chicken sandwiches. There are also several drink and snack stand within the market that sell soda, water, ice cream and other snack foods.

At the entrance to the Shipshewana Flea Market is the Auction Restaurant serving traditional Amish cooking. They provide guests with many different breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Many visitors to the flea market make a stop at the Auction Restaurant part of their trip. They stop in for a chance at the daily special or maybe just to take a quick break from shopping with a cold dish of ice cream or pie. It would be difficult for anther flea market to compare with the food selections offered here.
